A short walk from Kings Cross Station and formerly a Victorian Turkish Baths, The BathHouse is London’s most unique venue with double height ceilings and the benefits of a large garden.
As Turkish baths became less popular in the early 20th Century this 2000 square foot space was adapted.
However, the building still retains many of its original features with an impressive glass conservatory giving the space natural light, and an astounding dome room, aspects lacking from many other venues so well located.
Well-suited to corporate/private parties and gallery exhibitions, the BathHouse is available as a blank canvas, and our enthusiastic events team is available to dress the venue and fulfil any wishes.
Also within the same venue is Soho Original Books, an independent chain with cult status in London.
On the ground floor is an extensive range of book titles from across every field imaginable, including art, architecture, fashion, photography and travel.
Combined with this on the lowerground floor is a bright and welcoming licensed adult section.
The store also stocks the complete range of fashion & design magazines plus a great selection of art and gift cards.
125 Charing Cross Road is also fortunate enough to be the home of the unique and world famous Claire de Rouen Books.
Situated on the first level, this independent bookshop specialises in photography & fashion.
Often to be found at the store herself, Claire de Rouen’s captivating personality is reflected throughout the store and is just one of the many keys to its success.
The store was launched in the Autumn of 2005 with Bruce Weber's monograph ‘Blood, Sweat and Tears'.
Since then it has grown and gained global recognition for its highly selective range of books and magazines from around the world.
In addition to the latest titles, there is also a
complete back catalogue of monographs
which include rare, out of print, signed and collector's editions, plus a number of discounted titles.
The building itself at number 121-125 was a survivor of the former Cross Street before this was developed under an 1877
Act of Parliament into the Charing Cross Road which Londoners and visiting tourists recognise today. Along with Shaftesbury Avenue, it
was one of several roads built in the Victorian and Edwardian eras to improve traffic flow through central London.
Charing Cross Road is so called because it historically led from the original Charing Cross, which was erected by
Edward I as one of the crosses which marked the route of the body of Queen Eleanor of Castile, his wife, to London.
On the corner with Manette Street, No. 125 stands prominently within the northern section of
Charing Cross between Cambridge Circus and Oxford Street and has a stuccoed front of four storeys, each three windows wide.
Charing Cross Road is renowned for its specialist and secondhand bookshops and
cultural landmarks of the capital such as St
Martin’s College, Denmark Street,
The Phoenix Theatre and The Astoria, which are all just a few steps away from The Gallery.
Soho Books took residence on the ground and lower ground floors soon after the first of their stores opened in 2003. Claire de Rouen books was then opened within the building in the Autumn of 2005.
The BathHouse opened in September 2006 and quickly established itself as one of the most influential and contemporary art spaces in the country.
Throughout its recent history, The Gallery has played host to a number of leading photographic and art exhibitions,
fashion parades, product launches, photo shoots and private parties for London’s cultural luminaries.
This includes events for the likes of Sienna and Savannah Miller, Nike, Max Factor, Channel 4, ITV1, Sony, Microsoft and
Lehman Brothers.
